Biography

We foster failed with Honey Bear. She is a Jack Russel/Chihuahua mix who was a backyard puppy mill mama. She was kept in a crate with two other females and bread for the first four years of her life. She had never touched grass in her life. She was afraid of all humans, and would not come out of her opened door crate for her first year with us except to eat and potty. Now she is still cautious of strangers, but she loves her people, loves neck scratches, and will stay out of her fireplace cave (with tons of blankies) any time she feels like sitting on a couch or her big brother dog's open air bed. She still suffers from some anxiety, but she is a dog again, and enjoys walks and rolling in the grass all the time. Honey Bear has now been with us for 5 years. I am so glad she came into our lives. Ducky is Honey Bear's big brother, a Belgian Malinois/black lab mix breed. He arrived here before Honey Bear from the same pet rescue (New Hope Pet Rescue), but he was actually born in rescue. His mama had been rescued as a stray. He made his way to our home at 10 weeks old, so thankfully, he did not have a tragic past like Honey Bear. Ducky did, however, have a birth defect in his knee. He had surgery on it at about a year old, but it has never healed properly, therefore he has some pain, and limps to this day at 9 years old. He does get pain meds, and LOTS of supplements to help with the arthritis that has developed in that knee. Ducky's Malinois side means he is the FRISBEE KING! He is obsessed with his frisbee, and although he is now a kind of salt and pepper old man, he still insists on playing several times a day.
