Irie
Biography
I met Irie at a Norsled adoption event in Walnut Creek, CA in Nov 2017. A DNA test later showed that she was 85% Siberian husky and 15% German Shepherd. She'd been picked up as a stray in Pinole, about an hour northwest. She was a mess. Her fur was one huge mat, and she had ticks. The shelter said that she was 2 at the time, but I think she was closer to 3. I knew when I took her on a short walk that she was coming home with me. She was a mellow husky who was content with walking 5 miles a day, which suited me well. She loved to chase anything that moved, especially tennis balls. She was very food-motivated, but miraculously only went for garbage cans that were open. When we were in LA, she was great friends with a couple of little girls who went to a local school. Her grandma and I finally figured out that the girls didn't wash their hands well after eating - naturally Irie loved to lick them! Over the next 8 years, we traveled Western California, Nevada, and Oregon. She died suddenly in mid-October 2025 from inoperable cancer at age 11 or so. I miss her.
