Biography

Meet Sir Bennett, he's truly royalty in our home! In June of 2018, our middle daughter had just moved to the Hilton Head, SC area, from the Port Royal area. She was out on a drive near Parris Island, in Port Royal, SC. As she was driving, she saw a dog, wandering around, on Bennett Point Road. She stopped to check on it. She got out and looked it over, realizing it was covered in fleas and ticks and was an unneutered male. She took pictures and videos of the poor thing, and was automatically trying to find the dog a home. Upon returning to her vehicle, the dog jumped in and refused to get out. She had literally, the night before, signed a lease with a no animal clause. She attempted to see if he belonged to nearby residences, but no luck, so she took the dog to the first shelter, and they were going to put him down within 24 hrs. And due to her driver's license not matching the county that the shelter was in, they didn't want to take him anyways. So, she proceeded to another animal shelter. The same thing happened. They finally accepted the fact that she had just moved and signed a lease, and they also were going to put the dog down within a 24 hr period. She told them that she'd take the dog back to where she found it at and he'd have a better chance of survival. They told her that they would then have to fine her for abandonment. She begged them not to destroy him and she'd try to find a home for it, if they could hold on to him for a little while longer. Since there were no takers on her fb post, she called home to tell me about this poor dog. I explained to her that we had cats and that her father wasn't an animal lover as it was, and that he'd never agree to adopting an animal, let alone a dog. Fast forward a few days. One of my little 8 year old cousins, died tragically and my husband and I were on our way home from her funeral. Our daughter called and said that she talked to the shelter and that they were going to destroy the dog, if he wasn't adopted. She was crying, I was crying. My husband asked me what I wanted to do. I told him, I wanted the dog. (I know I was already emotional with the loss of my little cousin, and everything hit at once) For someone who wasn't an animal lover, this was a huge step. I never saw him agreeing to going and rescuing this dog, a 1500 mile round trip. However, he told our daughter to contact the shelter and tell them we wanted to come and get him. With everything going on at the time, my daughter requested for an extension in holding him, until we could get there. They told her that he had Heart worm and it was expensive to treat. (they weren't lying) But that didn't matter, I wanted that dog. I wanted to give him a second chance on life, and this time, these humans weren't going to let him down. Fast forward to 3 weeks later, we took the 1500 mile round trip to rescue this handsome fella. My last conversation with them was about how they neutered him, vaccinated him and would chip him when we got there. They expressed their concerns about his heart worm, and the fact that we had to travel through the WV hills, and that he may not make it. I explained to them, that at the end of the day, there was a 50/50 chance of him not surviving. If he stayed there, they were going to euthanize him. If we brought him back to PA, and something happened to him enroute home, then he'd at least be s out of the shelter, free and happy. I'm so grateful that they let us take the chance. As far as my husband goes, what I can tell you, is this. Sir Bennett AKA Benny AKA Bubby AKA SB and his Dad are best friends. If you talk to my husband, he tells people, affectionately, that he knew as soon as they brought Benny out, and he rolled over on the ground and peed on his foot, that they were gonna be P.A.L.S. , spells BUDDIES! ;) (It's a silly little thing he's always telling SB, and SB looks at him, as if he agrees. ;) We will forever be grateful to our daughter for finding and saving SB. Sir Bennett has been nothing but a spoiled little Daddy's boy, ever sine we brought him home. He's been to 27 states and we're still going. Sir Bennett is loved by our grown kids, AKA his sisters and brother. (Human and fur ;) ) He's also affectionately known as Uncle Benny to the grandchildren. Benny has gotten both my husband I threw some pretty dark times in life, in the past 7 years, and we hope that we can have alot more time with him. I love you Benny, for eternity and beyond, and I pray that we have many many more years with you, baby boy! (The picture of the snow on his snout, was from his first encounter with snow. Oh, how he played that day. Oh, how he loves playing in the snow and the water. To anyone who had, has or will rescue and adopt any animal out there, know that you are these babies super heroes. We need more people like you. And that includes the shelters and rescues. I appreciate all that you have done, do and continue to do. To anyone that has abandoned, hurt, killed an animal, I wish you nothing but Karma. I wish you the life you deserve. And the animals that you hurt, I wish the pain that you inflicted on them, comes back to you a million fold.
