Wonder
Biography
Meet Wonder — and the name fits her perfectly. Wonder is about 2½–3 years old, and her life hasn’t been easy. Before she was rescued, she wasn’t truly “owned” so much as surviving. She had litter after litter of puppies and was left to fend for herself, her babies, their dad Oscar, and an entire loose pack of dogs living in the woods of East Texas. At one point, there were nearly 15 dogs out on that lonely road — all neglected, all doing their best just to make it through each day. A kind gentleman began feeding them, and slowly, one by one, they have been saved. Timber and Moose have already made their way to Michigan to start new lives. Oscar is thriving in a foster home with space to roam. And sweet Wonder… she stayed behind with me. Wonder had a lot to carry in her heart. She had lived through storms, hunger, motherhood over and over again, and the feeling that humans weren’t safe. She had to decompress. She had to learn that walls and roofs can mean comfort, that hands can be kind, that sleep can be deep and peaceful instead of guarded. She has been with me since right before Thanksgiving, and recently she moved inside the house — and she is blossoming. She is learning that love doesn’t hurt, that she doesn’t have to be afraid, and that she never has to take care of babies again. Those days are behind her forever. Wonder is a beautiful Great Pyrenees who will never again have to survive storms in the woods or curl up in the cold. She will soon begin her heartworm treatment, continue learning how to just be a dog, and discover how good life can be when you’re safe, warm, and loved. She is gentle. She is brave. She is forgiving in a way only dogs seem to know how to be. And when the time is right, Wonder will be ready for her forever family — the one who will give her the soft bed, the full belly, the patience, and the love she has always deserved. Until then, she is safe. She is healing. And her future is finally as big as her heart.
